Commissions - October/November

Aaaaaand it's time to open commissions again! As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, October was just too busy what with moving and fixing up the house to take any commissions when I normally would have. I'm just now finally getting back into something resembling a schedule and finishing what few are left from the last round but it's time to take some new ones. I'll be taking a few more than usual to make up for October, but this will essentially be the commissions for November. I do plan on taking more at the beginning of December, but be aware that if you want something in time for the holidays you'll want to play it safe and try to get it this round. I'm also considering raising my rates as of next January so now's the time to get in on this. Enough talk, here are the rates: Below you'll find some examples of what the categories may look like.1 Mugshot
1 Figure
2 Figures

This is only a rough idea of what your commission might look like. I will most likely add some kind of background to each, just something simple, but it's not guaranteed.

I will keep adding any pertinent information to this post as it comes up. Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments. If you're interested in a piece, e-mail me at Thanks!

Inhumanity's Last COMIC TWART!

As I've been talking about this week, we've been doing What if the Comic Twart took over Marvel Comics? over at the Comic Twart, and here's some behind-the-scenes stuff for the book I picked, Fantastic Four.

And to see the finished piece with color, text, and some rambling from me, head over to the Twart! You'll also find Mike Hawthorne's gorgeous second entry featuring Elektra.

Here are the pencils for my cover for this week's Marvel What If? special on the Comic Twart. Hoping to have it inked soon, and fellow Twartist Mitch Gerads is helping me out with the text.

If you haven't been watching the Twart this last week, you've been missing some stellar work from the guys. You've got Mike Hawthorne's X-Men, Francesco Francavilla's neat take on the Avengers, Declan Shalvey's killer Punisher vs. Daredevil, and Dan Panosian's retro Luke Cage and Iron Fist. So much great stuff and there's a lot more to come so stay tuned!

My Negative Zone is full of stars

I've been wanting to try one of those Jack Kirby-style photo montages for a while, so as a way to get back into things this week I drew up my favorite super team and put them in cluttered PHOTO-SPACE.

Also, this week at the Comic Twart we're doing a special two-week event which basically amounts to "What if the Comic Twart took over Marvel Comics?" We've each picked the Marvel book we'd like to get our hands on and we're doing a mock cover for it. I've already mentioned here and there which one I'm going with so I have no problem saying that TODAY'S POST IS A BIG HONKIN' CLUE. Make sure to keep checking in there to see who picks what!

Slowly getting back into the swing of things after a very rough, very long week or so. Thanks for your patience.

Matchstick Gearhead is dead

I found two seconds to draw today, they were underneath my desk. "Matchstick Gearhead" is a favorite nickname of mine for a friend who most of you probably know. That is not him behind the desk though.

Update Time with Doc

Sorry for the recent lull in posts, we just moved into the house yesterday and in the weeks previous I was spending most of my time packing, painting, and otherwise getting the house ready. Even now I'm sitting on the floor of our apartment typing this because we haven't switched our internet over to the house yet. But I've been getting some questions in e-mails and twitter lately, and wanted to make sure they were addressed.

-October Commissions- I have not started taking commissions for October as I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back into a regular schedule. I've still got one or two left from the last round as well, but most of you should be getting your pieces in the mail this week. I might take commissions later in the month, but there are no guarantees. I will absolutely take commissions at the beginning of November though.

-Red Clay- In typical me fashion, I started a web strip at the worst time possible. As mentioned, I've barely had time to finish commissions, and I just couldn't fit in time for Red Clay. As with commissions, I'm hoping that once we've settled a little more into the house I'll be able to get back on track. I really appreciate you all waiting on me. I'll have an announcement with a more concrete return date soon.

I'm not sure when we'll be getting internet access at the house so it'll probably continue to be a little spotty here at the blog. We've got something really cool planned for the Comic Twart though and I plan on having something for that, keep an eye out!

By Crom!

Say, here's another commission. This time it's Robert E. Howard's BĂȘlit and Conan. I'll admit I know very little about Conan, who I've never drawn before. Most of what I do know about him is what I could learn from my kid brother who was obsessed the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. So basically a lot of screaming "CROM!"

I am, however, a big fan of John Buscema and it's tough not to be at least vaguely aware of his Conan work. Some of the creatures I've drawn here come loosely from his covers for Marvel's Conan series, some of them I just made up, and some are just a giant snake. I've drawn BĂȘlit once for the Comic Twart so it was fun to return to her. Overall this was a blast to draw so I'd be more than happy to do something more in this world.

And while I'm at it, good buddy and fellow Comic Twartist Mike Hawthorne is penciling a Conan book coming from Dark Horse in December, written by none other than Roy Thomas! I am positive it is going to look great, especially now that I see it's also being inked by John Lucas. Look here to find out more about that and be sure to pick it up.

From Symkaria With COMIC TWART

Slipping this in under the radar for last week's Comic Twart pick by Patrick Stiles, Marvel's Silver Sable. This is also Ketchup Week on the Twart and as far as I can tell this is the only one I missed this round. To see the full piece head over to the Twart.

This Mocha...

I spent all weekend painting our new place, getting no drawing in. I needed to start today off with something fun to get back in the groove, and I've really been digging the last week's worth of posts on Today's Inspiration, featuring cartoons in ads. From all that you get what you see here.
