Swords

Here's something I've been talking about forever but never done anything about, an actual page of Encyclopedia Brown. I've been racking my brain for a while on different ways I want to approach this, and while I may not be completely 100% on what I've got here, it's heading in a direction I like. I may keep tinkering with this page in particular just to see how I want to go forward with these.

This story is from the first book, Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective. The way I've got it laid out right now this would be about 4-5 pages, but we'll see. I'd like to say I'll add a new page for this one each week, but with the holidays fast approaching, I'm not going to promise anything like that.

KILL ALL COMIC TWART

The theme on ye olde Comic Twart this week was a favorite tv show of mine, Futurama. Once I got Fry, Leela, and Bender in there it became all about getting as many of my favorite characters in there as I could. Above is just a clip featuring Bender, but you can head over to the Twart to see the full piece and all the other great takes from the rest of the guys.

The Shaner knows...

Today’s commission, The Shadow. This guy gets requested more than any other character for some reason, even more than Batman.

WOOF

Today’s commission: The Inhuman Lockjaw. I know I talk a lot about Captain Marvel, and the Thing, and Popeye, and so many others, but man I really think Lockjaw is the coolest. I would happily do a book about nothing but him walking around, doing Lockjaw stuff.

Strange Brew

Don't let anybody tell you that Dr. Strange can't look at least a little like Frank Zappa. Because they'd be wrong.

My Spider Sense!

Here's another commission, a mugshot of Peter Parker sensing...something. Probably the Rhino. I don't get requests to draw Spider-Man ever and I don't draw him much when left to my own devices but this surprised me by being a lot of fun. I'll have to try some more with Spidey soon.

Teth-Adam

I go on and on about Captain Marvel all the time and even though I haven't drawn him much, I think Black Adam is a heck of a villain, both in counterpoint to Cap and on his own.

Thundering Typhoons!

Here's the first piece from this round of commissions, a Captain Haddock from the Adventures of Tintin for Paul Montgomery. I like drawing grumpy old sea-dogs.

With that, commissions are closed for the month, thank you to all of you who wrote in. I'll be opening them back up again at the beginning of December.

IT IS I

This is something I was going to do anyway, but it turns out today is the 41st anniversary of the beginning of Sesame Street. I am in some kind of Muppet mood this week.

Weird stuff

This is the other sketch that I mentioned yesterday, Doom Patrol villain Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, which was suggested by current Hulk artist Gabriel Hardman (I doubt I need to say it but you should all be reading Hulk). I had never even of the character before Gabriel suggested him. I think the Doom Patrol are really interesting, I just haven't read a whole lot of their stuff, but I do love me some silver age madness. I had a lot of really great suggestions yesterday but once I saw AVM Man and the cool Dinosaur head I couldn't shake the idea. Plus it gave me a chance to draw the Doom Patrol, who I've been looking for an excuse to draw again anyway. Robotman is awesome.

Wokka wokka

In an attempt to get back into the swing of things after what feels like years without drawing, I took sketch suggestions on twitter. My only rule was that it be somebody I haven' tried yet. There were a ton of great ideas, but the one I ended up going with for today was Katie Cook's suggestion of one of the Muppets. I had to go with Fozzie Bear, who's been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I don't draw them much because, like a lot of characters who are pretty well established as looking a certain way, I never know how to go about drawing the Muppets. But man do I love the Muppet Show, and plenty of the movies.

Katie also suggested the title character from her webcomic, Gronk, which I suggest you go take a look at. I did my best to try and draw her.

I actually got one other suggestion that I found really interesting but couldn't get to. The silver lining here is that I'll post it tomorrow so make sure to come back.

It's Slobberin' Time

Nate Cosby told everyone on twitter to draw this, the Thing fighting a bad guy while holding an ice cream cone. So I threw in a bunch of bad guys I’ve never drawn, with the exception of Blastaar. Because you gotta understand this internet folks, if you’re going to mention Ben Grimm doing something wild, I am bound to draw it. Also, I miss Awesome Andy.

Commissions are coming along well, there's still room for a couple more if you're interested. If I don't get back to you right away, or haven't yet, don't worry we've just been very busy with the house.

Samnee's Howling Avengers

Hopefully you all kept checking the Twart last week, as we also got a great Rocket Raccoon from Tom Fowler and Chris Samnee posted linework for his pick, Nick Fury and his Howling Avengers. For weeks now I've been looking for an excuse to color something of Chris', and he was nice enough to let me have a large file of this one to try it out. Thanks Chris!

I've still got some commission e-mails to process after a long Halloween weekend but I'll be getting to them very soon. There's still some room on the list if you're interested.
