Memorial Day

A little late but here's that Sgt. Rock sketch in color for Memorial Day.

Cub Reporter

No time for a sketch today, so here's yesterday's Jimmy Olsen sketch in color. See you on Monday.

Superman's Pal

Small sketch of Jimmy Olsen to get things started today. I've been reading that Superman Family volume of Showcase Presents, the Jimmy stuff is soooooo cool.

I decided to make today's sketch my contribution to this week's Comic Twart pick, THE WOLFMAN. Here are the inks but you can see the final piece over at the Twart itself. The Wolfman, along with Frankenstein's Monster, is one of my favorite of the classic Universal monsters.

Mary in color

Yesterday's Mary Marvel sketch with some color for the morning. As I mentioned last week, I won't be doing sketches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so instead I threw the colors on this today while I woke up.

Wow Mary

Today's sketch is Mary Marvel! I've said plenty about her before so I'll spare you here. This is based on a great Jack Binder cover for Wow Comics. It's a little different from how I'm used to drawing her but I wanted to try something a little closer to how she's usually portrayed just for the heck of it. Either way I love drawing Mary.

A Bob Parr

It's bowling time with Mr. Incredible of Pixar's The Incredibles. I can't believe I haven't drawn anything from the movie as it's one of my absolute favorites. At some point I'll have to get around to drawing the rest of the family.

It Ain't Easy

Quick sketch of Sgt. Rock to break in a new pen before I use it on work. I don't like how rarely I've drawn Frank lately, I think he's a great character.

This one's for sale if you like, $20 US plus shipping. E-mail me at if you're interested. In the future I'm planning on only posting warmups on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, starting next week.

Prisoners of the Sun

Today's sketch is TINTIN! I've had Tintin on the brain lately, what with these neat posters for the movie that came out a couple days ago, and the new trailer from yesterday. I've seen a lot of folks complaining about it but I'm determined to stay positive about the movie until I've seen it because I really like what I've seen so far. Plus, the caliber of folks working on it is pretty impressive. Anyway, I haven't done a whole lot of Tintin lately so I thought it was about time. After I finish my work on Storyteller I definitely want to put some color on this one.

This one's for sale, $80 US plus shipping.

The Living Weapon of K'un-Lun

Today's sketch is Danny Rand, Marvel's IRON FIST! I've drawn Orson Randall a couple times now but I think I've only drawn Danny's head once before. A fun character for sure.

Today's sketch is THUNDER, the Legion of Superheroes' champion of the power of Shazam. I really like the idea of a Shazam family member in the Legion. Even with the headband and Legion belt (I can't imagine what she'd keep in the pouches) I dig the costume, and I love the references in her real name and home planet. Drawing the old bearded Captain Marvel would have been fun too, I'll have to save that for another day.

The Lion of Asgard!

Here's today's sketch: Volstagg and son! Bonus points if you know the kid's name. I was taking suggestions from twitter today and got a good number of requests for Volstagg the Voluminous, and I'm more than happy to oblige. Volstagg's my favorite of the Warriors Three, and definitely my favorite supporting character in the Thor books. It's been a while since I'd drawn him though, and man I forgot how much fun it is. Put me down for a Volstagg and Family book someday. It was so cool to see him in the movie, and while I would have liked to see somebody else cast in the part, Ray Stevenson did just fine by me.

This one's for sale, $70 US plus shipping. UPDATE: SOLD.

No time for a sketch today, so here are some quick colors I put on yesterday's Nick Fury, ya goldbrickin' Yahoos!

Strange Tales

Here's today's sketch, by suggestion from my wife: NICK FURY, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.! I've talked plenty before about how much I dig this era of the character so I won't bother with it now.

This one's for sale, $75 US plus shipping.

Wonder Woman!

Realizing that it's been a long while since I've drawn any women, today's sketch is Wonder Woman! Other than some convention sketches I couldn't tell you the last time I drew her, and strangely enough I remember getting a lot of requests for her during college. I'll be the first to admit that my knowledge of her is pretty limited though.

This one's for sale, $65 US plus shipping. UPDATE: SOLD.

Also you'll notice that in the sidebar, underneath the "Commissions" section, there's a link to all the remaining daily sketches that are still for sale if you want to look back.

Super Soldier

Here's today's sketch: Captain America! We finally got around to seeing Thor last night. I really enjoyed it and I'm all the more pumped to see Captain America on the big screen now. More and more in recent years Cap's been growing on me so I'd like to draw him a little more than I do.

This one's for sale, $65 US plus shipping.

Holy Moley! (now in color)

Hey all, it's Free Comic Book Day! I've already gone out and picked up a bunch of the great stuff that's out today, and so should you. I'm inside today working on Jim Henson's Storyteller, but here are some colors I put on yesterday's sketch. Enjoy!

Holy Moley!

It's been a while since I took a minute to draw the Big Red Cheese, so here's today's sketch: Captain Marvel! This one's based on one of my favorite covers and I certainly plan on coloring it at some point. I love drawing this guy.

This is for sale, $65 US plus shipping.

Have at Thee!

Today's sketch: The Mighty Thor! Because I'd never drawn it before I went with a lot of the elements from fellow Twart artist Chris Samnee's take on the big guy for Thor: The Mighty Avenger. Thor's one of my favorite Marvel characters, and definitely my favorite Avenger, so I'm plenty excited to see the movie.

Yer a Wizard, Harry

Here's today's sketch: Harry Potter (and friends)! Finally, everyone else in my family will be familiar with something I drew. I just started reading the first book for the first time (gasp!) a few weeks ago so this has been on my mind. Admittedly, I take a lot of my reference for these guys from the movies. I'm definitely planning on coloring this one whenever I get a chance.

Like last week's sketches, this one's for sale, $75 US plus shipping.
