Robotman

Immediately after we did Doom Patrol week on the Comic Twart I went and got a copy of Showcase Presents Doom Patrol Vol. 1, and I haven't been able to put it down since. I don't have a whole lot of time today but I thought I'd jot down a quick Robotman mug.

Bart Allen

I really like this character, no matter what costume he's wearing and what he's calling himself. The Impulse design is pretty great though.

I like pink very much

On Sunday I took a couple hours and watched Superman: The Movie for the first time in a long while. I've always liked it but something about the movie really struck me the other day, and I haven't shaken it since. I took a minute and sketched a small Christopher Reeve Superman last night, the original of which you can see below. Above are some colors I played around with this morning.

If you'll excuse me now I'm going to go hum the main theme all day.

Tintin's Travels

A Tintin I drew on a sketch card. If you look hard enough and know your Adventures of Tintin well enough you should be able to pick out all the locations.

COMIC TWART X

Above is just a clip of my piece for this week's Comic Twart theme, Weapon X, as picked by Dan Panosian. To see the whole thing, just click on Weapon X/Logan/James/Patch/Wolverine's face.

Even though I'm not as big a fan of the character as I was when I first started reading comics, that first time I saw him tearing through a bunch of stooges while wearing that technodrome helmet was pretty wild.

As you COMIC TWART

This past week's theme on the Comic Twart, as picked by Dan McDaid, has been The Princess Bride. The movie's a favorite around our house so I couldn't pass this one up. Above are the inks, but I added some grays for the final piece, which you can see over at the Twart itself. Make sure to check out the other great entries from the guys!

SHAZAM

In lieu of a sketch today, I've got some designs I was thinking on. Last night after some talk on twitter about which of the Comic Twart guys could/should work on certain books in the big DC relaunch, I scrawled some quick design ideas on my desk for a relaunched Shazam book. Below is a Billy Batson I drew up last night, while above are the revised designs I drew this morning.I tried to keep most of the changes pretty subtle as I don't think there's a whole lot to "fix" on the costume designs. "Mighty Adam" is only seen from the shoulders up because I think he's already got one of the greatest costume designs in comics and would not change a thing. I've got a lot of story ideas to back up the design choices I made here, but I won't unload 'em on you all here. The title is a good example of the kind of thing that sounds great when you're falling asleep. Needless to say, this kind of thing is a lot of fun for me and I hope I get a chance to do this book at some point.

Girl of Steel

--Update: Now in color.
Today's sketch is Supergirl! I thought it'd be fun to do this as a companion to Friday's Batgirl. I've got a couple of the older Adventure Comics issues with the Bob Oksner Supergirl stories and they're great.

This one's for sale, $65 US plus shipping.
UPDATE: SOLD.

Batgirl!

Update: Now in color.
Today's sketch is the original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon. I just realized today that I've never actually drawn her, despite having done a commission with her in it. I'm busy wrapping up on some colors but I wanted to do something simple today to keep from getting rusty. Plus I like drawing red-headed characters.

This one's for sale, $65 US plus shipping. UPDATE: SOLD.

The Scarlet Speedster

I kind of miss doing Flash Fridays. The Flash is absolutely one of my favorite characters, no matter which one you're talking about. Apparently Barry's stirring up some trouble these days.

And in a little news, I was very glad to hear that Francis Manapul will be both writing and drawing Flash along with Brian Buccellato in DC's big relaunch. Francis is great and I love that DC is giving him a chance to write.

SOLD.
