So I've decided I'm going to try something different this month with the sketches. I've been feeling like they're getting stale, or just that I'd been in a bit of a rut, so for the month of October I won't be sketching any superheroes or any of the other regulars around here. I like superheroes plenty, but they're not the only characters I like, and yet looking back it's just about all I ever post here. They're an easy solid go-to when I'm trying to start my brain in the morning, but I'd like to challenge myself to do something different. I won't necessarily be posting every day (the first half of the month is a little busy for me) but we'll see.

Basically, none of the regular Marvel or DC folks. I'm not going to make it complicated and set any definite rules for this, just going to try to do something different and explore some other genres. Heck, I'd like to make up some new stuff if possible. Might even take some one-word suggestions from time to time. For instance, the above sketch started with the word Iriquois. I've mentioned I'd happily do westerns forever, right? Okay, moving on.

If you come here looking for the superheroes hopefully you'll stick with me while I try this out. Thanks all!

I would love to see your take on some of the people who made comics great like Jack Kirby or Stan Lee. I think they would look great in your style.

Or Pirates. Pirates are cool.

Thanks guys!

John-- do you mean drawing Kirby or Lee themselves or something else? Just making sure I understand. Pirates would also work.

Sounds like a great idea, Doc! Maybe even change up mediums as well to see what magic happens!
