Adventures of Superman!

As announced at DC Comics' website today, I'll be contributing to the digital-first title Adventures of Superman! I'm drawing a 3-parter written by Ron Marz and colored by Matt Wilson, both of whom I'm very excited to be working with. I'll have more as we get closer to February 17th!

THE FLASH

I haven’t drawn this guy in a very long time, especially considering I used to draw him every Friday for a year or two. For what it’s worth I drew this with Wally in mind.

Comic Book City Con Cancellation

I'd been set to attend Comic Book City Con in Greensboro, NC-- which is being put on by my favorite comic shop ACME Comics-- this weekend but unfortunately I'm not going to be able make it for a number of reasons. I was really looking forward to the event and seeing everybody so I'm very bummed that I won't be able to be there. I'm sure it's going to be a great time though. I don't know if the guys are planning to make this a regular thing but if they are and are willing to have me back I hope to make it next time. Thanks everybody.

The Name's Deadpool

I know things have been a little spare around here lately, but here's some Deadpool progress for you folks. Thanks for checking in!

Man Without Fear

This guy plays a large part in the Deadpool annual I’m drawing, and I’m very excited to be drawing him in an official capacity. DD has the distinction of being a character I really really like and yet for some reason barely ever draw. Figured I ought to correct that.

2013 UPDATE

And then there were two…

Apparently I can actually talk about the thing I’ve been teasing at for the last week on tumblr, which is that I’m drawing November’s Deadpool Annual #1, written by Ben Acker & Ben Blacker! When Marvel’s solicitations went out the other day I wasn’t sure if I could say anything because for some reason my name wasn’t on there. It is a completely bonkers story and I get to draw a whole lot of fun stuff so I hope you’ll consider picking it up come November.

Run-- Forest Run

As I've mentioned many times before, I'm just going to keep drawing The Brothers Gordon now and then until I finally do something with them.

Verily

Now and then when I really need something to loosen up in the morning, I've been drawing characters drinking coffee. Here's Thor trying a latte.

Zeddemore

The dead rising from the grave!

So here's the last of the four models I’m working from for the two issues of IDW’s Ghostbusters I’m drawing. Winston took the longest for me to wrap my head around but now he's one of my favorites to draw. I'll post the whole group later today.

Stantz

Fire and brimstone coming down from the sky! Rivers and seas boiling!

3/4 of the model sheet I’m working from for the two issues of IDW’s Ghostbusters I’m drawing. Of the four, I’m sticking closest to Dan’s designs with Ray. Tomorrow: OH $#!%

Venkman

Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!

2/4 of the model sheet I’m working from for the two issues of IDW’s Ghostbusters I’m drawing. Tomorrow: ARE YOU A GOD?

Spengler

Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes!

1/4 of the model sheet I’m working from for the two issues of IDW’s Ghostbusters I’m drawing. Tomorrow: ENTER VENKMAN.

Collecting a couple things I put together a while ago in this post. Prompted by Brett White I got thinking about my 5 favorite X-Men, a team that got me back into comics in high school. So I threw this together from older drawings, a few of them as old as 3 years (Nightcrawler).

Not long after I thought I might try the same thing with The Avengers. Note that a certain blue guy shows up on both lists, because you can't spell Beast without "best".

I'm not going to do another though. Can't think of another team that I'd want to do this with and there's too much work to do anyway. Still, it's a fun distraction.

New Address

So some of you may have noticed that the site was down for the last week or so. At some point I let my domain name lapse, and rather than deal with the headache of trying to get it back I went ahead and changed the address. If you're reading this right now that means you're currently at www.docshaner.com. New address, same ol' look and smell. And just so I don't leave you without a drawing, here's a quick Popeye from yesterday.
So go ahead and update your links, and thanks for hanging in there!

All For Now

Here's something I cooked up right before my fill-in issues for IDW's Ghostbusters were announced. I had been thinking this might be a fun thing to update as other projects are announced. Like an advent calendar except there's no chocolate. I'm posting it today because, at least for the time being, I won't be posting any more of the warm-up sketches. There's too much work to do and I have a bad habit of letting myself get distracted with them. So for now, this will sit at the top of the site until the next gigs are announced. I'm very excited about what's coming up this year and hope you are too. I will still post progress shots from work on my tumblr page from time to time, if that sort of thing interests you.

And a quick note-- this isn't necessarily how Venkman will look in the issues of Ghostbusters I'm drawing. I'm still working on the best way to approach the book so it doesn't scare off the regular readers.

Anyway, thanks for checking in everybody!

He Slimed Me...

If you haven’t heard, I’m filling in for the great Dan Schoening on Ghostbusters #7 and #8 from IDW, due out in August and September respectively. Here’s me trying to wrap my head around drawing Slimer. I’m very excited for this opportunity and appreciate IDW, Erik, and Dan letting me play in their sandbox. Look for more Ghostbusters stuff here soon.

Yes, it's Superman!

Morning warm-up: It’s a bird! It’s a plane! it’s George Reeves as Superman! I watched a lot of Adventures of Superman when I was a kid, and as far as I can remember that show was probably my introduction to the Man of Steel. I loved it and I’m sure it’s part of why I still like the character so much.

Superman seems to be doing alright for 75 years old. I wanted to do more than this but there you go. Thanks Siegel & Shuster!

Aw shucks

Did this during a quick doodle break. I don’t really have an explanation for this one, it made me laugh when I was drawing it.

Buddy Cops One-Shot

I meant to have this done a few weeks ago so people knew about the one-shot release coming up, but here you go all the same. Excited to have all the Buddy Cops stuff in one place, not to mention my first cover work. Here's more info on Dark Horse's website.

Atlas Shrug

I threw some color on that Superman sketch from ECCC. It needed to be cropped a little because it's from a photo and not a scan. I started drawing this one at the show so I'd look busy while I was at my table, not expecting it to go anywhere. It turned out to be the only original piece I sold the whole weekend, go figure! Drawing the big guy is an awful lot of fun, wish I could do it more often.

Back from ECCC

I had a great time at ECCC in Seattle this year. I managed to snag a few pictures of what all I was drawing this weekend.

I got my mitts on early copies of this sweet little number. Remember, the Buddy Cops One-Shot collecting the three stories from Dark Horse Presents and some extras will be in comic shops March 13!

One enterprising Starbucks employee took some liberties with the name. Can't say I blame him entirely.

ECCC!

I'm taking off for Emerald City Comicon in Seattle tomorrow! Here's all the pertinent info--

From what I understand, the convention has taken over the entire building this year. Artist Alley is on Level 4. I'll be sitting with Mitchford Gerads (Image Comics' The Activity and How To Make Drinks Entirely Out of Sugar) at Table F-02, as shown below:

Mitchard is the taller one with the beard, I'm the one with the glasses and strong opinions on Plastic Man. Our table will look approximately like this:
I'll have copies of Dark Horse Presents and Eerie Comics #2 on hand as well as the original art from these stories, in addition to some other recent pinups and sketches. I plan on being there all three days of the convention and will be doing sketches at our table. Sketches will be first come first serve, black and white inked on 9x12 bristol, $30 for a bust and $60 for a full figure.

I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody there and hope you'll come by and say hey!
