So long, 2014. It’s been a hard year, but an ultimately rewarding one. Big thanks to everyone who supported the stuff I was fortunate enough to work on this year. Looking forward to 2015!

Merry Christmas!

Season’s Greetings, Happy Holidays, and “Mary” Christmas! See you in 2015!

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

My variant cover for Fantastic Four #644, which showed up in Marvel’s March 2015 solicitations today. I’m really glad I got to work on one of my favorite Marvel characters before the FF close up shop.

Announced this morning, as part of DC's Convergence event next spring, the Flash Gordon team of Parker, myself, and Bellaire are doing two issues of SHAZAM! featuring the original Marvel Family taking on the world of Gotham by Gaslight.

Below is the full page from the announcement.

"Only Child" at 13th Dimension

Dan Greenfield over at 13th Dimension has some very nice things to say about the “Only Child” story Ron Marz, Matt Wilson, and I did in Adventures of Superman. He also talks with Ron a bit about how it came together. Check it out!

This is also how I learned that they’re using my cover for the cover of the 3rd volume trade, which was an excellent surprise today.

Haven't done one of these in a while. I’m assuming Billy really wants to try coffee and Cap hates it.

Happy Halloween!

Hope everybody has a good one!

FLASH GORDON #6 is out today! Written by Jeff Parker, random dots and lines by me, colors by Jordie Bellaire, letters by Simon Bowland, and the above cover by Marc Laming. Check it out here on comiXology or at your local comic shoppe*. This issue has our first real brush with the Hawkmen and a character people have been asking about since we started.

King of the Seven Seas

I’ve been designing buildings and vehicles for two days and if I didn’t draw a face I thought I might explode.

Some Mary Marvel in the morning.

Ol' Green Eyes.

Look! Up in the sky!

It's been a while since I drew this guy, right? I'm not tricking myself? Either way, I miss drawing him.

Quick sketch of the new Batgirl, designed by Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr. Love the design, looking forward to the book!

The Red, White, and Blue!

Here’s a Captain America I started on the 4th. Chipping away at it for 20 minutes or so a day means I didn’t finish it until today. Roughly based on this war bonds poster. I enjoy drawing Cap.

Flash Gordon #3 Preview

PREVIEW: Flash Gordon #3 — This issue features possibly my favorite 8 pages I’ve ever had the good fortune to draw (not included in the preview), plus the proper introduction of two of my favorite characters I’ve ever drawn (both included in this preview), so I hope you’ll all check it out this Wednesday. IT’S FUN, FOLKS.

Scratch that

Unfortunately, due to a few unforeseen circumstances, I will not be attending this weekend's Heroes Con in North Carolina. I had been planning on being there right up until this morning and I'm disappointed I won't be going. I've never been but I know it's a favorite of many folks so hopefully they'll have me next year and it'll all work out. I hope everybody who is going has a great time!

Heroes Con!

Heroes Con! I’ll be there! June 20-22! Holy @#$^ that’s next week!

I’m at table AA-820. I’ll be doing sketches at the show, and I’ll have originals from Flash Gordon, Superman, and Deadpool with me as well as copies of the books themselves. Also probably some coffee and my cherubic demeanor.

I won't be doing any pre-show sketches this time around. Too much to do leading up to the show, unfortunately. Thanks/sorry to those wrote me asking about that.

King Arthur

An Aquaman rough for today. I say “rough” because this is likely as far as it’s going to go. Yesterday I mentioned on tumblr that Aquaman is a character I think I’d like to draw at some point, at least partially because of the challenge of drawing things underwater. I got to draw Flash Gordon swimming underwater once in the first issue and I've been fascinated with the idea of drawing those kind of scenes since. That and I’m reading the character monthly again thanks to FG-collaborator Jeff Parker.

Flash Gordon #3 Sneaks

Don't look-- just fly

Some colors on part of a commission from Seattle as I head into the night shift. Nice to draw the guy again after a small break. Working on Flash Gordon #3 at the moment, hope to have something from there to show you all soon.

Flash Gordon #1 is out today! Get to your local comic shops and buy all their copies! If the sound of going out is terrifying to you then head over to ComiXology and pick it up there! I also did an interview with David Harper over at Multiversity Comics, talking about some of the pages and process, which went up today. The above cover is by buddy Marc Laming of King's Watch, the series that this book spins directly out of-- the conclusion of which (issue #5) also comes out today! So pick that up too! And with that I leave you with a favorite
panel from issue 2--

Flash Gordon #1 Preview!

Emerald City Comicon!

I'm heading out to Seattle this weekend (March 28-30) for Emerald City Comicon! Carla and I will be in Artist Alley on Level 4, sitting with Mitchmond Gerads (The Activity, The Punisher, The etc.) at table F-09. But where's that?! Well, look at this handy map--
I'm the one with glasses. Mitch is the one who doesn't look like me. Still having trouble finding us? Look for these banners--

At the table I'll have original pages from Ghostbusters, the Deadpool Annual, and Adventures of Superman--
--as well as copies of the Buddy Cops one-shot, Ghostbusters #7 and #8, and the Deadpool Annual.

I'll be taking sketch commissions all three days of the show, first come first serve. They'll be inks and washes, one character, on 9x12, for $50 each.  I'll only be taking a handful of sketches each day so make sure to find me early if you're interested.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing everybody at the show, so make sure to come by and say hey!

Some pencils for a Rogue commission to start the day.

Saturday, March 15, 2014

Hey everybody! I'll be attending Emerald City Comicon again this year, coming up in just under two weeks. As per usual, I will be taking some commissions at the show, but I'll also be taking a few pre-convention commissions as well.

UPDATE: All filled up, thanks folks! Look for another post regarding all the need-to-know info for ECCC in the next week or so.

I'd also like to note here that I'm working very hard to wrap up all other outstanding commissions before I leave for the show. If you're reading this post and wondering where your commission is, you are one of these folks. Thanks for being so patient.

Adventures of Superman #45!

Adventures of Superman #45, the conclusion to the 3-parter by Ron Marz, myself, and Matt Wilson is available today! You can buy it here, and for only 99 cents! Personally this is my favorite of the three and the one I’m proudest of. Ron hit all the right notes and Matt did an incredible job with the colors. I’m so glad I got to be a part of this series that I enjoy so much, with one of my favorite characters, and doing a play on one of my favorite movies no less. As always, if you enjoy what you see please share this or let DC know. I sincerely hope I get another chance to draw Superman at some point. And thanks so much for all the kind words so far!

Flash Gordon sneak peek

Here's a peek at some pencils from the first issue of Flash Gordon, coming in April. Flash and the gang get an eyeful of something, that's for sure.

Adventures of Superman #44!

Adventures of Superman #44, which is part 2 of the 3-part Superman story I did with Ron Marz and Matt Wilson, is out TODAY. You can pick it up here at ComiXology. In today’s chapter we learn a thing or two about our large metal friend, and maybe a little about ourselves. And again, if you like what you see feel free to share this here or let DC know as I’d certainly love to keep drawing Superman. Thanks folks!

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Like the previous Brainiac, this is largely a bunch of random thoughts on Bizarro smashed together. I make no secret of the fact that this guy’s one of my favorite Superman characters. I’ll keep doing these so long as I’ve got an idea I like, and no sooner.

Adventures of Superman #43!

Adventures of Superman #43! Available today from ComiXology here! Written by Ron Marz, drawn by me, colors by Matt Wilson, letters by Wes Abbott! Above is my cover! If you've liked the Superman sketches I've been posting here please consider giving it a look. The best part is there are two more chapters coming the next two Mondays. Thanks all!

CBR Sunday Conversation

I talked to buddy Paul Montgomery over at CBR for their Sunday Conversation series. We talked about music, Superman, Flash Gordon, and Mr. Mxyzptlk being a kazoo. This is a great series that Paul has been doing and I’m honored that he asked me to do one.

Hey all, sorry I've been so absent with updates here. Going to try and make posts here more regular this year, but in the meantime I wanted to make sure any of you folks who only check this site knew about the new Flash Gordon series! Coming in April-- written by Jeff Parker, drawn by me, and colors by Jordie Bellaire! This book spins right out of the great work that Jeff and buddy Marc Laming have been doing on King's Watch. I'll have more as we get closer to the first issue. Drawing this book is a blast and I can't wait for everyone to see it!
