It's new comic book day and I small jobs in two books out this week. I drew and colored a 1-page backup in Superman: American Alien #2, written by Max Landis. Here's a panel from that--

Second, I got to draw my favorite Marvel villain in one of (if not my most) favorite Marvel book right now, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! Series artist Erica Henderson was nice enough to invite me to draw Doctor Doom for one of the Deadpool's Guide to Super Villains cards in today's issue (#3), colored by Rico Renzi--

I didn't realize they'd both be out this week, but this was a fun surprise.

Justice League: Darkseid War: GREEN LANTERN!

The Justice League tie-in I drew, Darkseid War: GREEN LANTERN #1, is out today! I had a blast drawing this and working with Tom King, Chris Sotomayor, and the folks at DC, so I hope you give it a try! You can check out a short preview here.

Thanks everybody!

A Teen Titans thing, put together over several weeks. I've been posting progress shots over on twitter, starting with Beast Boy back in September. I'm fond of this group specifically, and decided to put slight tweaks on the costumes as I went.

Captain America!

Here's my variant cover for Marvel's upcoming Sam Wilson: Captain America series, which just went up in CBR's weekly Axel-in-Charge column. I'm a fan of the character, especially in his recent turn as Cap, so this was a really fun gig.

Green Lantern!

From yesterday's solicits for DC Comics' October titles, I'll be drawing the Green Lantern one-shot for Justice League: Gods and Men! Looking forward to working with Tom King and drawing all those GLs. Here's a John Stewart sketch because it's been a while since I've drawn the guy.

Heroes Con!

HeroesCon is this weekend! This will be my first time at the show and I am very excited about going.

I'll be at table 820 in Artist's Alley, on the corner, in between Mirfh Gedars (Activity Time, Gunsy McSkullguy) and Erlich Burns'em (All 'dem Ghosts, Beware The Turtles).

I'll have a sketch list each day of the show, taking a handful at the start of each day, first come first serve. Simple busts/head & shoulder sketches, b&w, 9x12, for $50. Make sure to come find me early!

I'll also have with me issues of Flash Gordon and Convergence: Shazam!, as well as select original art from Shazam!, Flash Gordon, and Adventures of Superman. As outside the show, Shazam! pages will not be for sale, but I thought maybe folks would get a kick out of seeing them.

I will also be on the "ICONIC HEROES" panel, Friday evening. Please come watch me mumble in front of three artists I greatly respect and admire.

5:30 pm
Room 207AB
TOM HEINTJES (Hogan’s Alley) discusses the challenges and triumphs a creator experiences while working on iconic established characters. Join TIM SALE (Captain America, Batman), DAVID ANTOINE WILLIAMS (X-MEN), EVAN SHANER (Flash Gordon) and WILFREDO TORRES (The Shadow: Year One).

Excited to see everybody in North Carolina this weekend!

Black Canary/Green Lantern!

Here's my variant cover for Black Canary #4, part of September’s celebration of the 75th anniversary of Green Lantern. This was a really fun gig as I’m a big Black Canary fan, and I’m looking forward to the new book from Fletcher and Wu. Also the first time I did all the lines in pencil, which was fun to play around with.

Regarding HEROES Con sketches--

I've had a number of folks asking me about pre-convention sketches the last month or so, which can only mean that Heroes Con is coming soon. So here's the deal:

Unfortunately, I will not be taking pre-convention commissions this time around. That isn't to say that I won't do them for shows in the future, but at the moment there just isn't enough time to do them justice before hand. I'm just getting back to work today after a few weeks off, and after some consideration I've decided I'd rather just focus on getting work done so I can have a good time while I'm in North Carolina.

I will, however, be doing sketches at the table. I haven't decided on prices yet but I will likely be doing a handful of simple sketches each day of the show, first come first serve. I should have more info on those before everything starts.

Since I couldn't make it last year, this will be my first time at Heroes and I am very excited about it. Hope to see you there!

SHAZAM! Models

These have shown up in various interviews and stuff but I thought it might be a good idea to gather them here. Here's all our heroes, I'll follow up soon with the villains.

SHAZAM! Villain Models

Here are the villains from issue #1. I was hesitant to post any of these, but I see now that the Sivana sheet has made it's way onto the internet, so here you go. Every single one of these was fun, even the giant robot. Sivana will always be the most fun though.

Art for Sale

Hey all-- just a heads up: I've started updating the Art for Sale section here (you can see the tab at the top) with pages from Adventures of Superman and Flash Gordon. There's more instructions there if you're interested. Thanks!

From a few weeks ago, a pre-ECCC commission, the All-New Captain America. I’m really enjoying the current run with Sam Wilson as the new Cap.

This chunk here copied and pasted from Brent Schoonover

Recently fellow comic artist, and a good friend of mine, Wilfredo Torres lost his lovely wife Monica after a long battle with cancer. A group of us got together in Emerald City this past weekend and decided we wanted to do something to help a great guy and his family during a difficult time. We invite anyone who is willing to post artwork onto EBAY for a seven day art auction and give all proceeds to the Torres family. Use the hashtag #TorresBenefit on social media when posting your work. You can send all funds to wtorres1972(at)yahoo(dot)com

I’ve listed the original artwork from my cover to Adventures of Superman #15 here on eBay. Again, just to be clear, here is the link. Above is a photo of the original. I’m also trying to figure my way around auctioning a commission for this, which I will have more details on soon.

Fred has been a great friend to me and I’d very much like to show him how much support he’s got, so even if you can’t bid or donate, please share this! Thanks all!

ECCC 2015!

I'm heading out to Seattle this weekend (March 27-29) for Emerald City Comicon! I will be in Artist Alley on Level 4, sitting with Mitchard Gerads (The Activity, The Punisher, probably some cereal boxes I think) at table H-04. But where's that?! Check it out, friend--

We're the two white guys with brown hair and beards, which I'm positive will only describe the two of us at this thing. Still having trouble finding us? Look for these banners! They're shamefully tall and make me feel ridiculous.

I'll have original pages at the table as well as copies of the books I've worked on the last couple of years. I'll be taking a few sketches at the show but I'm trying to take it easy this year, so I won't be drawing the entire time. I'll be doing some simple bust sketches for $20, but at my discretion, so if you're interested come find me earlier than later.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Pre-ECCC Commissions

With it being halfway through February, Emerald City Comicon in Seattle is fast approaching. For those attending the show, this is how I've decided to handle pre-show commissions this year:

On Friday (February 20th) at 12:00 PM EST, I'll start a 3-slot list for these commissions. I figure this gives everybody all week to find out and think about it. You can reserve a spot by e-mailing me at, but only at that time, and no earlier. It'll be first come first serve, and once the three spots are gone that's it. Details regarding the actual commissions are as follows--

-- All commissions will be on 11x17 bristol
-- All commissions will be black & white, inked.
-- $225 each, one character with background.
-- I prefer payment through paypal but other methods can certainly be discussed if need be.
-- Commissions will be ready for pickup at the beginning of the convention on that Friday (March 27th).

As for the show itself, I'll be taking it easy this year, so if I am drawing at my table it will just be simple small things like headshots for a much cheaper price. I'm hoping to mostly just see and meet folks and try to have a good time while I'm there.

The Shield #2!
